Everything Old Is New Again

Over the last few months I have been working on my website. I have had incredible assistance with this from my friend Michael Knight of After Orange Design. Michael is a coder and designer who pushes me to learn coding. I have known Michael for close to twenty years. We bounce ideas off each other, he in the high desert of Southern California, me in Saint Petersburg Florida. Michael had added a really cool feature for the page banners on my site. It appeared to be images or video animation, but was 100% code. The original piece was compromised by a WordPress update.

So being the brilliant person he is Michael said he had some ideas and was working them out. A couple days later he showed me what he had been working on, and I was floored. We have gone through some of my designs and he has put them through a fractal generator to create whole new images that again, give the illusion of being animated.

What is a fractal? Fractals have their base in mathematics but we are dealing with fractals as they apply to new media art.. According to Wikipedia;  “Fractal art is a form of algorithmic art created by calculating fractal objects and representing the calculation results as still images, animations, and media. Fractal art developed from the mid-1980s onwards.[2] It is a genre of computer art and digital art which are part of new media art. The mathematical beauty of fractals lies at the intersection of generative art and computer art. They combine to produce a type of abstract art.

I absolutely love what he is doing. It is taking my graphics that have been created over the years and breathing new life into them. Creating entirely new pieces. I cannot wait for it to be added to the site. This changes everything.  My work is bold and colorful and these new banners are at their core, my work. It will make it all work together. I feel that this new updated website of mine represents who I am creatively better than ever before.
